Who am I?
I grew up in Carlsbad, California and attended public schools from K - 12. When deciding to go to college, I found it difficult for me to leave the beautiful SoCal climate and I decided to attend school in Orange County. I went to Chapman University (located in Orange, California) where I earned a mathematics degree and became a proud Panther! I then went on to obtaining my teaching credential through California State University San Marcos. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was little. I grew up teaching my younger sisters everything they needed to know and enjoyed watching them grow and learn about the world around them. I realized I wanted to be a math teacher when I was in high school and discovered my love for math and logic. I gained some teaching experience through volunteering with an after school program in Orange County. I also lead group tutoring sessions for a calculus class at Chapman. I love to play soccer and hope to one day coach my own team.
Since earning my credential at CSUSM, I have been teaching at Vista High School in North County San Diego. I currently teach AP Calculus A/B and Integrated Math 3. I have also taught Integrated Math 1. I have enjoyed working with the students at staff at VHS and I am learning something new everyday! |
How do I Learn?
I believe in Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences which defines seven distinct intelligences: visual-spacial, body-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, linguistic, and logical-mathematical. According to this theory, everyone has a combination of these learning styles and this combination impacts the way people understand information. My strongest intelligence is logical-mathematical, followed by musical and linguistic. I work towards understanding all intelligences in order to teach students of all learning styles. I believe everyone can learn and learning happens in many different ways.
